The important findings og the study are detailed:

               1. Distribution of genera and species:

Of the 6 genera of the family, the genus Terminalia L. is the largest one in the study area

having 7 species followed by Combretum Loefl. (2). Hence these two genera together form
about 75% of the total species in the region. There are 3 genera, each have a single species

only in which Calycopteris Lam. is a monotypic genus (Table. 1).

               2. Medicinal properties:

The area is rich in tribal communities and them utilizing the plant parts like roots, stems,

flowers, fruits and seeds in various ways for their treatment of various ailments since ancient

time. In the present study an attempt has been made to gather indigenous information about
the uses of Combretacean members which reveals out of 13 species recorded from the study

area 11 have medicinal value. Anogeissuss latifolia, Calycopteris florubunda, Combretum

albidum, Combretum indicum, Lumnitzera racemosa, Terminalia paniculata, T. bellerica, T.
