Since its beginning in 1970, the Physics department has tried to deliver the best education in North India to instill scientific temperament in young minds and increase their practical skills. Department has been given status of Star scheme department by DBT. Science department has been ranked No. 1 in Punjab in India Today Ranking 2023. Department was upgraded to PG Department of Physics in 2019 offering Nano-Technology and Physics of Material as elective subjects. Department has well furnished laboratories with latest equipments like Michelson Interferometer, Constant Deviation Spectrometer, Hall Effect apparatus etc. Department has also set up Solar Energy System trainer for studying various characteristics of Solar Panel and Celestron telescope to observe the night sky. Department has its own library stocked with number of books. Books are issued to the needy students. The vision of the department is to mould the students into rational thinkers and socially aware citizens. We truly believe that confidence building is necessary for overall growth of the students. Along with the education, it encourages students to take part in extra and co-curricular activities. For this, the department is running CHANDRAYAAN VIPNET CLUB in collaboration with Vigyan Parishad under unique authorization no. V2608007 since 31st March 2010 and it was re-registered under unique authorization no. VP-PB0129 since 22nd Feb., 2017. The department has highly qualified and devoted teachers working on numerous research projects, routinely organizing and participating in National and International Conferences, workshops and seminars as paper presenters, delegates, and resource persons. Students have access to computer facilities with continuous internet access, allowing them to stay up to date on new breakthroughs in science and technology and thereby update their skills.
