DISCUSSION

The present research work on implementation of polyhouse technology in Nashik
district has been undertaken with special aspects like cost and income per year. The similar

aspects have also been studied for open field crops to find fruitfulness of polyhouse
technology. The crop wise cost benefit analysis for polyhouse crops as well as open field

crops also worked out. The observations and findings which were made during the course of

studies are discussed in this part.
According to present observations the yield of capsicum under polyhouse is 34.934

tonnes/acre which was observed 2.05 times higher as compared to open field (17

tonnes/acre). Thus, our results also proves the increase in yield of capsicum under
polyhouse. It is also confirmed by statistical analysis the capsicum grown in shadenet house

also proved the same (16 tonnes/acre). The increase in yield is coupled with high economic
benefit. Following Phookan and Saikia (2003) the Cost :Benefit ratio was analysed in present

work the cost was calculated taking in to consideration crop management and labour
input. The C:B ratio is obtained 1:3.02 for polyhouse grown capsicum while it is obtained

1:4.66 for capsicum grown under shadenet house. However, the C:B ratio of shadenet house

grown capsicum is higher than that of polyhouse ,the yearly income is less(Rs.5,60,000)than
               that from polyhouse(Rs.13,97,360).

The present studies proved 1.63 times increase in yield of grapes (18 tonnes/acre) under
polyhouse as compare to open field (11 tonnes/acre). Besides increase in yield the polyhouse

technology is found remarkably beneficial (C: B ratio 1:8.57) due to offseason fruiting
season. The grapes of polyhouse were harvested during month of October. The market value

of grape during this period was 5 times higher as compared to that during the regular

               harvesting period (Feb. upto March).
In study area, polyhouse technology for flowering crops like rose also found

beneficial. The C:B ratio is obtained 1:1.83 for polyhouse grown rose flower, while it is

found 1:0.64 for open field cultivation of rose .Such as this analysis indicate that the open
field cultivation of rose is noticed not profitable. The gerbera crop was found not beneficial in

               polyhouse.
