Fig.1. Importance of Environmental Conservation
1.2 Coronavirus
The spread of coronvirus throughout the world since 2020 has made the human beings realize
the harm done on the environment as the reduced human activities and lockdowns has lead to
positive changes in the nature and environment like improved quality of air and water,
reduction in noise pollution, ozone hole repair, decreased emission particulate matter and
green house gases etc. which aided in repairing the nature. However, the number of deaths
reported due to coronavirus has created a fear amongst the masses which has increased
unemployment, poverty, clinical waste and generated an economic crisis in all the nations of
the world. As coronavirus is a pandemic which can be transmitted from person to person
locdowns and curfew was imposed in different parts of the whole world to break the chain of
transmission. However, the positive effects of lockdowns on environment are not permanent
so the need of the hour is to develop technologies that are eco-friendly and will help in saving
our biodiversity and environment from further degradation. Though Coronavirus is one of the
st
most disastrous pandemic of 21 Century but it has helped us to distinguish between our
luxuries and needs and further made us realize how the goals of environmental conservation
can be achieved by making small changes in our lifestyle at global, state and community
level.
Globally, as reported to World Health Organization (WHO) on 16 May 2021, there have
been 162,177,376 confirmed cases including 3,364,178 deaths due to coronavirus.
